“The Good, Bad and the Ugly When It Comes to Financial Regulation”

Peter J. Wallison holds the Arthur F. Burns Chair in Financial Market Studies and is co-director of American Enterprise Institute's ("AEI") program on financial market deregulation. Prior to joining AEI, he practiced banking, corporate and financial law at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in Washington, D.C., and New York.

Mr. Wallison has held a number of government positions, including as White House Counsel under President Reagan and as General Counsel for the Department of the Treasury under Don Regan. Most recently, he served on the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission which investigated the causes of the 2008 economic meltdown. He is a frequent commentator in the mass media on the Federal takeover of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the financial crisis of 2007–2008 and related matters.

Peter is the author of numerous books and publications and is also a frequent contributor to the op-ed pages of The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Financial Times. He has been a speaker at many conferences on financial services, accounting, and corporate governance, and is a member of the Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee and the Council on Foreign Relations.
